Unlike its predecessor, the New Model, the Universal No.3 had a straight 3-bank keyboard that replaced the curvier 2-row layout. It was first produced in 1893 in Groton, New York by the Crandall Machine Company. Crandall Universal typewriters lacked the wow factor of the New Model but they're still worthy of a spot in any collection.
