The Sun Typewriter was patented on April 7, 1885 by Lee Burridge of New York. There were three models produced by the Sun Typewriter Company of which the two earlier models were mounted on a wood base while the 3rd had a dogbone-shaped frame which eliminated the need for the wood base. It is thoroughly remarkable how similar the Sun, especially the Dogbone model, was to the Odell No.1.
