The Paragon typewriter, by all accounts, was the predecessor to the Peerless. It was produced ca.1895 by the Ithaca Gun Company of Ithaca, NY. The example on this page is labeled "Paragon No.2" so it would stand to reason that this was the 2nd iteration of from brand. Paragons (and early Peerless) are distinguished by their nickel plated sides that are not unlike those of the Smith-Premier No.1.
