Like the Cooper, The Jones was produced before the term typewriter was developed. Thus its official name is the Jones Typographer though it may also be referred to as the Jones Mechanical Typographer. Unlike the Cooper, which seems to have been a one-off, the Jones was commercially produced. It was invented ca.1853 by John Jones of New York and it was produced by the Rochester Novelty Works.
