The Halstead Typewriter was invented by Colonel Benton Halstead of Cincinnati, Ohio. He patented his "Type Writing Machine" on March 12, 1872. It had a curved rear-downstrike typebar arrangement, like a Waverley, with a piano-like keyboard. It was last seen in St. Louis, Missouri in 1953.
