The Gerda Braillewriter, a German-made braille typewriter (Blindeschreibmaschine), was invented ca.1919 by Georg Emig of Berlin. The Gerda was an index machine that appeared to have been a cross between the Blickensderfer and Crown typewriters. It was reported that the German government helped move this project along so that soldiers blinded during WWI would have a typewriter that they could use. Gerda Schreibmaschine.
