The Dollar Typewriter
Very few writing machines get more basic than the Dollar typewriter, which, like its name suggests, cost just $1. The inventor of this toy-like writing machine was Robert Hawley Ingersoll. It was produced ca.1893 by the Robert H. Ingersoll and Bros. Company of New York. The Dollar typewriter consisted of little more than a dial, ink roller, rails and a wood base. One name variant of this typewriter was the Yankee.
