Dollar Typewriter

Wanted: The Dollar Typewriter

Very few typewriters were more basic in construction and in function as the Dollar, which, like its name suggests, cost just $1. The inventor of the typewriter was Robert Hawley Ingersoll who first produced it ca.1891 by his firm, the Robert H. Ingersoll & Bros. Co. of New York. The typewriter consisted of little more than a dial, ink roller, rails and a wood base.

One name variant of the Dollar typewriter was the American Toy Typewriter. See an original 1892 ad for it here...

Despite the Dollar having been a market failure it was produced again in the 1898 but with a different name: the Yankee.
