The World Typewriter was patented by John Becker on October 12, 1886. It was produced first by the World Type-Writer Company of Portland, Maine (later production took place in Boston, Massachusetts and Hartford, Connecticut). I'm on the hunt for a World No.1 with gold embellishments on the cast iron under the paper fingers. I'm also hunting a World typewriter that was nickel plated instead of japanned.
