The 1st of the Franklin typewriters was "The Franklin,"  a.k.a the Franklin Type I. It is very easily identifiable by its decal which reads "THE FRANKLIN" in all capitals letters across a banner. The Franklin was invented by Wellington Parker Kidder and produced in 1891 by the Tilton Manufacturing Company of Boston, Massachusetts.
