The Durand typewriter consisted of little more than a set of individually hung type elements similar to letterpress print blocks, ink pads and a crude steel carriage, all on a wood base. It was produced and named after the Durand Steel Locker Company.​

The Durand is reminiscent of the Ingersoll.
