The Defi Typewriter

The Defi typewriter was predecessor to the Sterling. Because the Defi has the insignia "Breveté S.G.D.G." on its top plate, there is the possibility that it was meant specifically for French markets (maybe marketed as machine à écrire The Defi), though I have also seen ads for it in U.S. periodicals being sold by the Household Sewing Machine Company of New York. Like the Sterling, The Defi was a failure even there were at least two various models sold. Other name variants of the Defi include the Eagle and the Secretary. They were all most likely produced in New York.
