Direct Printer

This modified Hammond Typewriter was invented by Charles Sears of Cleveland, Ohio, ca.1900. It was dubbed the Sears Direct Printer. Charles' modifications to the Hammond pertained mostly to the carriage which allowed it to advance "...at each stroke of the keys only the width of the letter printed."
