The Salter Visible Standard typewriter was a departure from company's previous models because it featured an oblique, frontsrike typebar arrangement. Also unlike its predecessors, it was constructed of aluminum rather than cast iron. After the Salter Visible, George Salter & Co. of West Bromwich, Great Britain began producing its typewriters with a more traditional, less interesting frontsrike typebar arrangement.
