Antique Sholes & Glidden Typewriter, ca.1875. This was the first commercially successful typewriter to be produced and the crown jewel of any collection lucky enough to have it.
 
The example listed here is the "Perfected" version with a top-mounted carriage return lever. Original, all-black finish with gold pinstripes. All of the wooden sublevers are in excellent condition. The carriage does not advance but only because it needs to be lubricated and tuned. The typewriter is unrestored but already in very good condition. No cracks or repairs to the cast iron.
 
The postage rate will be high because this typewriter will need to be crated for safe transport.
