Ponting's Patent Booking Machine was invented ca.1875 by Edwin T. Ponting. It was produced in South Woodford, Essex, England for the purpose of reproducing pawnbroker tickets in triplicate. Some may also refer to Ponting's Patent Booking Machine as a polygraph, pantograph. duplicator, copying machine or multiple writing machine. None of these terms are wrong, but none are necessarily right, either.
