The Ne Plus Ultra sewing machine was patented on March 30, 1858. Patentee and manufacturer was the O.L. Reynolds Company of Dover, New Hampshire. Both a hand operated model and a treadle version were produced. The treadle stand had two flywheels and two pitman rods powered by an extra large foot pedal. The Ne Plus Ultra sewing machine was embellished with mother of pearl inlaid flowers and gold pinstripes on japanned metal.
