Eaton & Ellsworth "Monitor" Check Protector
The Eaton & Ellsworth which was later renamed to the Monitor check protector. Both were produced at 27 Devonshire St. in Boston, MA by the Eaton & Ellsworth company. Patent no.153,059 was awarded for the device in 1874.
Two version of the Eaton & Ellsworth Monitor check protector were produced. One had a slightly extended paper support attached to the top of the paper table. The other, like the one on this page, had a paper support attached to the left side of the paper table.
A rebranded version sold as the Monarch check protector was marketed by the R.H. Smith Mfg. Co. of Springfield, MA.
