McElroy's Point Writer was patented in 1888 by inventor James F. McElroy of Lansing, Michigan who sold the right for the machine to the American Printing House for the Blind of Louisville, Kentucky. Actual production of the Point Writer was done by Tafel Brothers Manufacturing.
