Horton Typewriter

Wanted: Horton Typewriter

The Horton is a very early down-frontstrike typewriter which had its first patent issued on September 18, 1883 and a subsequent one on October 16, 1883. The typewriter was invented by Edward Elijah Horton, an Official Reporter of the High Court of Justice in Toronto, Canada. Edward originally started the Horton Typewriter Company in 1885 in Toronto in support of his invention but a another factory was quickly added in Buffalo, New York. Some evidence suggests that the actual production of the Horton may have been handled by E.E Garvin & Company of New York.

Check out a "Preliminary Circular" for the Horton here...
