During the late 1940s and '50s, from its Hartford, Connecticut factory, the Royal Typewriter Company offered its top-of-the-line Quiet De Luxe models with a luxurious gold plated panels. A patron could either pay a premium to own one of these exotic typewriters or be lucky enough to win it. Most had black and gold panels but some were also produced with all gold panels.
