The Diskret, an index typewriter, also doubles as a manual cipher machine capable of typing in code. It was produced first in Karlsruhe, Germany, ca.1898, then in Berlin and later Leipzig by Dr. Friedrich Rehmann first then by the of firm of Giernat & Schröter, GmbH. Richard Beger of Dresden was its inventor. Since it's German, the typewriter may also be referred to as a Schreibmaschine Diskret, Geheim-und Weltschreibmaschine. The Diskret was the successor to the Volksschreibmaschine.
