Wanted: Dart Marking Machine
The earliest Dark Marking Machines were produced by Jno. (John) M. Fairfield who was contracted to refine the typewriters and to produce them by his company, the Type-Writing Company of Hartford, Connecticut. However, Fairfield was not the original inventor. That was a man named Lewis Dart.. Later examples of the Dart were produced by the Dart Marking Machine Company, also of Hartford. Darts were specialty typewriter intended for writing extra large characters on shipping crates.
